Dion Fanthom, aged 24, from Wolverhampton, is the founder of Mindful Monday, a not-for-profit organisation, which hopes to reward people for the kindness they show for others.

She has appealed to local businesses to offer treats which can then be given to someone nominated through the mindfulmonday.co.uk website.

Optimal Beauty, in Walsall, is the first to donate a treat with the offer of a free treatment voucher and bouquet of flowers.

The person judged as the most deserving will be announced on the website next month.

Dion, a student at Staffordshire University, said: "The Acts of Kindness project is aimed at providing a care package to someone nominated by the local community.

"It is an attempt to support the community and spread some random acts of kindness.

"I am hoping a lot of businesses will come on board to recognise people who do something for other people.

"The idea is that the presentations will be a nice surprise for people.

"I founded Mindful Monday in January last year and everything went online because of Covid.

"I hope that we will be able to select one person each month for a treat and if many businesses come forward to donate items then we may be able to announce more than one recipient.

"The objective is to change the way people consider mental health.

"We believe everyone has mental health and we should all acknowledge this and by doing random acts of kindness people can improve things for others."
