'Batman and Robin' recreate iconic Only Fools and Horses run for hospital charity

It's a television scene that never fails to amuse: Del Boy and Rodney dressed as Batman and Robin respectively emerging from the fog in the comedy classic Only Fools and Horses.

Now Earl Edwards, aged 48, from Codsall, and Ivan Fletcher, aged 49, from Bilbrook, are planning to dress the part to take part in the Vitality 10 Kilometre run, which usually takes place in London.

They hope to raise thousands of pounds to pay for vital equipment for the Children's Unit at New Cross Hospital.

The dynamic duo will set off from Budgens store at Bilbrook at 8am on Sunday morning and plan to run towards Wolverhampton. They will also catch up with the Reliant Regal van at Molineux en-route, before completing a circuit to Codsall.

Earl, is no stranger to fundraising and last year, together with another friend, Stuart Bailey, raised more than £20,000 for the NHS.

On that occasion Earl donned the Pink Panther costume and his friend was dressed as Peppa Pig.

Earl said: "Because of the Covid restrictions people can run the Vitality 10 kilometres in different locations.

"We decided to dress as Del Boy and Rodney because we know it makes people smile and in these times gives people hope for the future.

"We set a target of £500 but are hoping to raise as much as possible and Budgens have already donated £500 to set us on our way.

"Anyone wanting to donate can do so through a justgiving page set up by Ivan Fletcher or at Budgens store at Bilbrook.

"The money raised will go towards providing baby monitors and other vital equipment for the children's unit at New Cross Hospital which does such wonderful work."

Both Earl and Ivan plan to continue running during weekends throughout June.

Bobby Bhandal, the 58-year-old owner of Budgens at Bilbrook, said: "These guys are amazing and they do so much for charity.

"We have been here for five years and always like to support them as we believe in putting something back into the local community."
