Dr Lauren Ward-Davies, from Wolverhampton, is urging the public to take part in next wing walk at Rendcomb Airfield on July 6

Dr Lauren Ward-Davies took part in an "exhilarating" wing walk challenge which saw her strapped to a 1940s biplane in aid of Compton Care.

And now the NHS doctor has called on people to do the same – with the charity already organising an event at Rendcomb Airfield for July 6.

Dr Ward-Davies said: "I have always liked stretching the limits of my comfort zone and experiencing new and exciting things, so when the opportunity arose to combine this with raising money for Compton Care, I signed up for the Wingwalk immediately.

"I have seen the brilliant support and individualised care that Compton provides for people in the local community who are living with complex and incurable conditions, either as an inpatient or in their own homes. I was delighted to be able to raise money for Compton to help fund this incredible service.

"My colleagues, friends and family who kindly sponsored me all thought I was crazy for doing a Wingwalk but they loved the photos, and hopefully I have inspired others to challenge themselves in similar ways.

"I would encourage everyone to consider fundraising for Compton and would highly recommend taking to the skies after being strapped to the top of a 1940s biplane! It was exciting, exhilarating, and unforgettable – and all for a great cause."

The money raised as a result of her fundraising exploits could help to fund four night-sitting sessions for patients at Compton, allowing them to receive specialist care while remaining in their own homes.

Kate Kelly, community and events manager at Compton Care, said: "We’re so grateful to everyone who participated in this thrill-seeking challenge and raised money for Compton – 1200ft in the air! We’re really pleased to be able to offer our incredible supporters yet more exciting ways of fundraising for us."

Compton Care, based in Wolverhampton, has organised another walk to take place on July 6 with AeroSuperbatics, based at Rendcomb Airfield in Gloucestershire. A deposit of £150 is required to book, with a minimum sponsorship amount of £600.
