Wolverhampton Council planners gave the green light for All Saints Action Network (ASAN) to carry out a refurbishment programme at the nursery on All Saints Road.

It is the first phase of works to All Saints Nursery, which is also looking to carry out further enhancements in the future.

These improvements will see the existing small, covered play area become a bigger space, provision of a new reception lobby and an extension to the cloakroom.

There will also be new signage and work carried out in a bid to create a more welcoming route into the nursery.

Bosses hope the refurbishment will lead to an increase in nursery numbers and even create more jobs in the future.

Agents Architettura Design Limited said: “(The scheme) enables a flexible, phased programme for implementing not only these proposals but also aspirations for the ongoing development of the existing nursery premises at a later date.

“The scheme provides for a clear and engaging experience along the approach to a fresh, light and welcoming reception building.

“The cloaks area gives flexibility for a variety of uses and the building as a whole provides for physical and sensory linkage to a much improved and extended outdoor play space.

“Our clients further advise that this proposal is made to enable the ASAN nursery remain viable and relevant.

“We are confident that the investment in our outside space and an improved reception will encourage more local families to enrol and as such lead to more jobs being created.

“This will further ensure that children’s occupancy does not decline; a situation which could lead to job losses. We anticipate that this enhancement will lead to potentially two further jobs being created.”

Planning officer Andrew Johnson said: “The proposals would create investment at this established facility.

“The new layout would enhance this important community use and create a better environment for the attending children.”
