Businesses in Tettenhall have teamed up to launch a community initiative that will see raffle tickets bought and prizes handed out in aid of Compton Care. The initiative has been launched by Jen Olma and Chris Wyer

The initiative has been launched by Jen Olma, 34, who runs The Nail Room in Tettenhall, and Chris Wyer, 40, who runs Baked in Tettenhall.

They have also recruited the help of former England player and Wolves legend Steve Bull to make the draw on February 7.

The two business owners decided to try to help out local concerns during lockdown by keeping the shops alive in the minds of customers.

They encouraged local businesses to donate prizes for a raffle and already the dynamic duo have managed to gain 50 prizes, with some worth up to £150.

Jen said: "I came up with the initial idea and it has snowballed and the take up has surprised us both.

"We wanted to ensure customers did not forget about their local businesses and charities have also been suffering through lockdown."

Chris said: "The idea was to give people a lift and also to help out local businesses during lockdown and to keep customers and let them know they are still there.

"We decided to give away prizes as a lift for people and keep them engaged with local businesses while raising money for Compton Hospice.

"We went live on Sunday and by 10pm had raised £500 and are now up to £1,300 with a target of £3,000."

The couple have a dedicated Facebook page which is updated daily and a Paypal site where tickets can be bought for £1 each.

People are also being asked to answer a tie-breaker question about when the Tettenhall Clock was installed in the village.
