Ethel Lote, from Aldridge, says she was delighted with the gift from Buckingham Palace.

The initiative was organised by the Royal British Legion (RBL) where 99 puddings were handed out to certain recipients to mark 99 years of the charity.

Mrs Lote, a long-term member of the RBL, said: “It was wonderful to receive the pudding, I couldn’t believe it.

"When we received the pudding, I had just opened the Queen’s message to me because I am 100.

“I thought how lovely, the Queen and different people of the Royal Family have had a go at mixing the ingredients.

“It is quite good really, something different isn’t?”

Mrs Lote, who looked after wounded soldiers during the war, has a photograph of herself and the Countess of Wessex. She met her on a previous occasion at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.

Explaining the Christmas pudding initiative, her son Derek, 67, said: “Twelve months ago, a group of RBL veterans went to Buckingham Palace and produced, aided by a bit of stirring from the Queen, Charles, William and George, 99 of these puddings.”
