Teenager and man still in critical condition after Walsall crash

A teenage girl and a young man remain in a critical condition after a car hit a wall in the Black Country.

Emergency services were called to Mellish Road, in Walsall, after a blue VW Golf crashed into a wall just after 1am on Sunday.

A 22-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl were taken to hospital with serious injuries. A spokesman for West Midlands Police confirmed they remained in a critical condition on Monday morning.

Officers closed the road whilst a forensic examination of the scene was carried out – ahead of an appeal being launched for anyone who saw anything that could help in the investigation.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to Mellish Road, Walsall at 1.03am on Sunday to reports of a road traffic collision.

"Two ambulances, two paramedic officers, the West Midlands CARE Team and a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic attended.

"Crews arrived to find a car which had been involved in a collision with a wall.

"The two occupants of the car, a man and a woman, suffered serious injuries and received trauma care on scene before being conveyed on blue lights to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham."

A West Midlands Police spokesman added: "We’re appealing for witnesses after a collision in Walsall which has left two people with serious injuries.

"We were called to reports that a blue VW Golf has collided with a wall on Mellish Road, Walsall, just after 1am on Sunday morning.

"A man, aged 22, and a 17-year-old girl have been taken to hospital where they both remain in a critical condition.

"The road was closed while we carried out a forensic examination of scene.

"Enquiries are underway and we are urging anyone who saw anything or has any information which may assist us to get in touch.

"If you have any dash cam or mobile phone footage, or saw a blue Golf in the area before the collision please contact us as soon as possible."
