The man, in his 50s, went to cycle past the group on a disused railway track off Cartbridge Lane South on January 23.

The group began kicking and punching him, before two of the youths – on a motorbike – knocked him onto the ground.

The attack continued until a passer-by shouted and the group of lads ultimately fled from the scene after the attack at 1.45pm.

The incident left the cyclist with his jaw fractured in two places, with fractures to his ribs, leg and wrist. He is now recovering in hospital.

Now a police appeal has been launched to track down the group who were all described as white and were wearing dark clothing, face coverings and scarves.
