Firefighters were called to pump water out of The Picture House in Stafford last week which was flooded, just four months after reopening following a £700,000 refurbishment after it was flooded in October 2019.

The Wetherspoon pub's refurbishment work also included the full restoration of the historic plaster ceiling.

The site had been completely stripped back, with a new kitchen, cellar and toilet facilities installed.

The recent damage has affected the area in front of the bar, and heaters and dehumidifiers will be used.

Contractors

A spokesman for Wetherspoons said: "We are incredibly grateful to Staffordshire Fire service for attending and pumping out flood water and saving the pub from really serious damage.

"They were able to get the flood water down and allow our contractors to take over with pumping out the water.

"The water was coming in as fast as it could be pumped out, but everyone’s efforts paid off.

"The damage is limited to the area in front of the bar only and we are now focussing on drying out the building with heaters and dehumidifiers. This will take approximately four weeks.

"We will need to replace the carpet, subfloor and some low-level repairs and redecoration.

"We put in extensive flood protection after taking advice from specialists after the last flood, the river levels were apparently higher than the 2019 flood."
