Slim Chickens will join other chains including Five Guys and Wagamama at McArthurGlen’s West Midlands Designer Outlet.

The shopping village at Cannock opened to visitors in April, offering a range of big names including Boss, Tommy Hilfiger, Nike, Adidas and Joules.

An existing retail unit next to the proposed new Slim Chickens branch is being used to extend the restaurant unit floorspace by 83.14 sq m.

A report to Cannock Chase Council’s planning committee said: “Since the grant of planning permission, discussions have been ongoing with leading brands and key tenants to lease units within the West Midlands Designer Outlet.

"A key element of an outlet being successful is its associated food and beverage (FB) offer and owing to the internal operational layout requirements of Slim Chickens, the proposed tenant of FB03, there is a need to increase the size of this unit.

“As a result of the small size of Unit 1, there has been no interest from (shop) operators and given the internal requirements of Slim Chickens, it is proposed to extend FB03 into Unit 1.”

Planning committee members approved the minor material amendment.

Councillor Doug Smith said: “It seems very straightforward. There is no external change, it is internal.

“I am sure they have given it a lot of thought because they are losing a shop space. They will not have taken this decision lightly.”
