Plans for more than 30 new homes on the edge of a South Staffordshire village have been given the go-ahead by councillors.

South Staffordshire Council previously granted outline permission for up to 30 homes on the land west of Ivetsey Road, Wheaton Aston.

Now detailed plans have been put forward by Shropshire Homes for 32 properties, parking, a new access and adopted road.

The development will be a mix of two, three and four bedroom homes, including 13 classed as affordable for shared ownership and social rent.

Andy Sheldon, land director for Shropshire Homes, spoke in support of the development at Tuesday’s South Staffordshire Council planning committee meeting (March 16). He said: “The principle for development on the site has already been established as it has planning permission for up to 30 dwellings.

“There have been no objections to our application which provides a well-designed layout including three bungalows, one of which is to be affordable. The housing mix meets the requirements specified by the council and there is a high proportion of two and three bedroom properties, set within an area of proposed open space.

“As a private builder celebrating our 40th birthday this year, we pride ourselves on providing well-designed and well-built homes and are looking forward to being able to start this development as soon as possible.”

Committee members unanimously approved the proposals.

Councillor Brian Cox, ward member for Wheaton Aston, Bishopswood and Lapley, said: “I’m happy to see that this appears to be at last coming to the end and I’m happy for this application to be passed.”
