A postman has been putting himself through the pain barrier to help raise funds for a cancer charity close to his heart.

Dennis Glenn from West Bromwich has been completing 100 push ups a day during May to raise £1,000 for Cancer Research UK.

The 33-year-old said he had taken on the challenge after seeing an advert on Facebook from Cancer Research UK asking people to do 100 push ups for charity.

He said: "I decided to go and do it after seeing the advert as a friend and I would usually do something each year to raise funds for a charity.

"It was also to help myself as my fitness has suffered over the last year with the gyms being closed, so this has done wonders for making myself feel better and get back into training.

"It's also been good to do this for a cancer charity as my mother in law Jeanette, my workmate Mark and my friend Karen have all suffered from cancer at some point."

Mr Glenn said he had set the target of £1,000, but was surprised to find he had exceeded that, with nearly £1,100 donated to date.

He said it had been a bit of a shock at the beginning of the month when he began doing the push ups, but worked out a plan.

He said: "I'd just seen the 100 push ups a day and thought I'd be able to do that easily, thinking about how I could do it easily 10 years ago.

"I then did the first lot and suddenly realised it was a lot harder than I thought it would be and thought 'How am I going to be able do all of these?'

"I decided to split them up during the day, doing 50 in the morning and 50 in the afternoon, and that's really helped me.

"It's been great to see people come out to support me, as well as it helping drive me back to fitness."
