Man led to safety after fire in West Bromwich tower block

A man had to be led to safety after a fire inside a 17-storey block of flats in West Bromwich today.

Sixteen firefighters were called to the scene at Kenrick House just after 10.30am.

The fire in the fifth-floor flat was extinguished and a man was led to safety and given first aid.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Fire Service said: "At 10.35am on Tuesday 26 January, we received a call alerting us to a fire in a fifth-floor flat of a 17-storey building 'Kenrick House' on Green Street in West Bromwich.

"One fire engine from Smethwick, a fire engine and Brigade Response Vehicle from West Bromwich, a Brigade Response Vehicle from Handsworth and 16 firefighters were all attendance with the first crew arriving in around four minutes.

"One main jet was used to tackle the fire which has been extinguished. One man was led to safety and received first aid from crews at the scene.

"Crews remain at the scene with police and ambulance colleagues."
