Crews were called to the fire in Smethwick.

Fire crews were called to deal with a blaze which broke out at a garage and tyre yard in the Black Country.

Flames engulfed three cars and spread to a perimeter fence at the site on Middlemore Lane, Smethwick, early this morning before being brought under control by firefighters.

Crews arrived at the scene just before 4am and used four pumps to douse the flames. The fire has now been extinguished but teams remained on site this morning for damping down and to clear an oil spillage. It is not clear how the fire started.

West Midlands Fire Service said: "Crews are still on scene at a four-pump fire in Smethwick.

"Fire in yard has been extinguished. Gas and Electricity Board also in attendance. Vehicles also involved in fire. Highways requested to deal with oil leakage on Middlemore Lane. Crews engaged in cutting away/damping down."
