Fire crews tackle blaze at five terraced homes in Oldbury

Fire crews from across the Black Country were called to a significant blaze involving five terraced properties in Oldbury.

Crews from Ladywood, Oldbury, Smethwick, Tipton and West Bromwich were called to Baldwin Close, Oldbury, after reports of a fire involving five properties on a terrace.

Five appliances and 18 fire fighters were seen fighting the fire, with an hydraulic platform from Highgate Fire Station also in use to tackle the blaze from above.

The service said no one had been injured at the scene of the fire on Monday, and urged motorists to keep clear of roads in the area and around Albion Street.

A West Midlands Fire Service spokesman said: "We were called at 3.42pm today to Baldwin Close to reports of a fire involving five terraced properties.

"We have sent five appliances from Ladywood, Oldbury, Smethwick, Tipton and West Bromwich to the scene and a hydraulic platform from Highgate.

"Eighteen firefighters are dealing with the incident, which is still ongoing."

West Midlands Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.
