Man rescued after fire at flat near Stourbridge

A man was rescued after suffering from smoke inhalation in a fire at a flat near Stourbridge.

West Midlands Fire Service was called to the property in Milton Close, in the Amblecote area, at around 7.50pm on Thursday.

Crews from Brierley Hill, Haden Cross and Dudley fire stations all attended the scene to tackle the fire involving a microwave.

One man was rescued from the property before being treated by paramedics. He was taken to hospital for further treatment.

A spokesman from West Midlands Fire Service said: "We were initially called by someone who had heard a smoke alarm beeping and we sent three crews to the scene – a total of 13 firefighters. The first crew was at the scene within five minutes.

"Crews found the fire was in a ground-floor flat and it involved a fire contained in a microwave.

"One man was rescued and treated by crews with oxygen for smoke inhalation. He was handed over into the care of paramedics at the scene."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman added: “We were called by the fire service at 7:54pm on Thursday night to a fire at a property in Milton Close.

"We sent one ambulance to the scene and treated one patient, a man, and conveyed him to Russell’s Hall Hospital for further treatment.”
