Human remains found at Black Country landfill site during daily routine inspection

The site manager at a landfill site in the Black Country discovered human remains during a routine daily inspection.

A bone was found by workers at Himley Quarry Landfill Site in Kingswinford on Monday, May 24.

West Midlands Police was alerted to the find on Monday and officers are now working to find out who the remains belong to. Enovert, which runs the Himley site, is assisting police with their investigation.

The bone is not currently thought to be linked to any ongoing investigations but will undergo further forensic and archaeological analysis.

A spokesman for Enovert said: "During a routine daily site inspection of our Himley Landfill Site on Monday, May 24, Enovert’s site manager identified possible human bones on a part of the site.

"The area was immediately cordoned off and West Midlands Police notified of the findings.

"Enovert is continuing to work closely with West Midlands Police to assist with the investigation."

The spokesman said that due to the police investigation, they would not comment any further on the discovery.

Vehicles from West Midlands Police's Incident Support Unit were seen parked at the Oak Lane site on Tuesday. Sections of the landfill site were also seen cordoned off, with blue police tape stretching across a road.

A spokesman for said on Tuesday: "We are investigating after a human bone was discovered at Himley Quarry landfill site, Kingswinford.

"The area has been cordoned off for further searches to be carried out.

"It will undergo forensic and archaeological analysis.

"There is no information linking this discovery to a criminal investigation at this stage."
