He said his time for the year would be spent to create a 'cleaner and greener' town.

"I am greatly honoured to have been elected as mayor," he said. "I thank all the councillors for the opportunity.

"I moved to Sutton 27 years ago and my family are now fully committed Suttonians.

"When the council was founded in 2016, one of the founding principles was to make our town cleaner and greener.

"That's my theme for the year.

"The pandemic is not over but we are seeing some return to normality.

"It's pleasing to see people in the flesh again at council meetings.

"I look forward to to huge events in 2022.

"We have the Queen's Platinum Jubilee and if we are to demonstrate our Royal Town credentials, we must properly recognise this marvellous achievement.

"We also have the Commonwealth Games and we welcome those.

"It will be good for business and will highlight the town through the world's media. We must be ready for this event and ready to welcome visitors to our town."
