Yousaf Ejaz arranged a meeting to test drive the car in Birmingham that she was selling online on the evening of December 27 last year.

The 18-year-old, after driving the vehicle poorly for a short distance, pulled out a gun after being told to stop by the woman.

Ejaz threatened her with what looked to be a black handgun and demanded she get out of the car before he drove away.

She reported the crime to the police, with the car triggering an ANPR camera in the city the following evening.

Chase

Firearms officers soon tracked Ejaz down to Holyhead Road and boxed in the car, but he jumped out and ran off.

Two officers gave chase and the teenager was arrested following a short chase – wearing the same clothes he'd been in when he stole the car the day before. Checks also showed that the mobile phone found in the car had been used to arrange the viewing of the vehicle.

Ejaz, of Boulton Road, Handsworth, admitted robbery, possession of an imitation firearm, and driving without a licence or insurance. He was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on March 11 to four years detention in a young offenders institution.

Detective Constable Jeff Brooks, from West Midlands Police's Force CID, said: "This was an understandably shocking and frightening experience for the woman and we hope that knowing Ejaz is now behind bars brings her some comfort."
