Woman and cat rescued from house fire
A woman and a cat had to be led to safety by firefighters after a blaze started in a fridge freezer.
Fifteen firefighters were called to Farnborough Road in Castle Vale, Birmingham, at 6.39am today.
It was a fire in a ground floor hallway of a first floor maisonette, the fire service said.
A spokesman added: "One man had already managed to leave the building when we arrived but our crews led one woman and brought a cat to safety from the building.
"The crews worse breathing apparatus and use hose reels to extinguish the fire.
"We believe both of them had precautionary checks from the ambulance service.
"The fire is believed to have started in a fridge freezer in the hallway."
