Fire at Perry Barr's One Stop Shopping Centre

A fire has led to the partial closure of a West Midlands shopping centre.

The blaze broke out at the One Stop Shopping Centre, in Perry Barr, overnight.

Six fire engines and a hydraulic platform were sent to the scene at around 4am this morning.

At 9.30am this morning, a West Midlands Fire Service spokesman said: "Crews are still on site. The fire is believed to be accidental but investigations into the cause continue. The main retail park is still open."

Some of the stores inside the centre will remain closed today, the outdoor retail is unaffected.

A statement on One Stop Shopping Centre's website said: "Due to a fire overnight on December 30 inside the mall, some stores will be closed.

"The main outdoor retail park is unaffected and open.

"Inside the following remain open – Holland & Barrett, Savers, British Heart Foundation, Market Village, Warren James, Mobile Plus and The One Store. All others not listed inside are closed.

"Further updates will follow and we apologise for the inconvenience."
