No new coronavirus deaths confirmed at region's hospitals

There have been no new coronavirus deaths reported at the region's hospital trusts today.

Latest figures released by NHS England show there were no deaths at hospitals in the Black Country, Staffordshire or Birmingham,

It means the total number of Covid hospital deaths in the region remains at 7,592.

Meanwhile, the latest figures released by the Office for National Statistics on care home deaths shows there have been no new ones caused by coronavirus.

It means a total of 1,436 people have died in care homes in the region after testing positive for coronavirus so far.

The NHS Trust with the highest number of coronavirus deaths in the region is University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the Queen Elizabeth, Heartlands, Solihull and Good Hope hospitals, where the toll is 2,612.

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, which runs City and Sandwell General hospitals, has the highest coronavirus toll in the Black Country, where the figure is 1,716.

A total of 1,377 patients have died from coronavirus at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS trust, which runs Stafford hospital.

There has been 801 patients who have died at Wolverhampton NHS Trust, which runs New Cross Hospital.

At Dudley NHS Trust, which runs Russells Hall Hospital, there has been 740 deaths while there has been 722 deaths at Walsall NHS Trust, which runs Walsall Manor Hospital.

One new coronavirus death has been confirmed in the region, in the latest figures released by NHS England.

It means the total number of Covid deaths in hospitals in the Black Country, Staffordshire and Birmingham now stands at 7,592.

A further 1,436 have died in care homes in the region after testing positive for coronavirus.

As of May 14, NHS England will only be publishing the daily death figures on week days – so death totals for Saturday and Sunday are only available on Monday.

Therefore on May 24, NHS England confirmed a further eight deaths on Saturday, two on Sunday and three on Monday – an overall total of 13 deaths in the three days.

One death was announced at the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, which runs City and Sandwell General hospitals, taking the total number of deaths to 1,716. This death was confirmed in Saturday's figures.

No deaths in the region were confirmed in the NHS England figures recorded on Sunday or Monday.

Overall, a total of 801 people have died at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, 740 at the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, and 722 at the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.

At the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS trust 1,377 have died.

And a total of 2,612 have died at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. The trust runs the Queen Elizabeth, Heartlands, Solihull and Good Hope hospitals.

A total of 51,254,436 vaccinations have been carried out across England to date – including first and second doses.

In the Midlands, 6,001,023 first doses of the coronavirus vaccine has been administered, while 3,735.234 second doses have been carried out.

The data includes vaccinations carried out between December 8 and May 23.
