One new Covid death confirmed in region

One new coronavirus death has been confirmed in the Black Country – but none in Birmingham and Staffordshire.

It means the total number of Covid deaths in the region's hospitals increased to 7,588.

A further 1,414 people have died after testing positive for coronavirus in care homes in the region.

NHS England confirmed a further seven deaths on Friday in the country's hospitals.

One death was announced at the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, which runs Walsall Manor Hospital, taking the total number of deaths to 722.

A total of 801 people have died at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust and 740 at the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust.

At the Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust a total of 1,715 have died, and at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust a total of 1,376 have died.

And 2,610 people have died at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.

A total of 46,461,266 vaccinations have been carried out across England to date – including first and second doses.

In the Midlands, 5,729,811 first doses of the coronavirus vaccine has been administered, while 3,107,830 second doses have been carried out.

The data includes vaccinations carried out between December 8 and May 13.
