10 Covid deaths confirmed in region's hospitals and care homes

A further 10 coronavirus deaths have been confirmed across the Black Country, Staffordshire and Birmingham.

One death was confirmed in the region's hospitals, taking the total number of Covid deaths in hospitals to 7,587.

Meanwhile, nine deaths were confirmed in the region's care homes. It now means 1,414 people have died after testing positive for coronavirus in care homes in the Black Country, Staffordshire and Birmingham.

In the latest figures released on Tuesday by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), three deaths were announced in care homes in Birmingham, two in Sandwell, two in Staffordshire, one in Dudley and one in Wolverhampton. No care home deaths were recorded in Walsall in the latest figures.

NHS England confirmed a further 11 deaths on Tuesday in the country's hospitals.

The one death was reported at the Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs Sandwell General and City hospitals, taking the total number of deaths to 1,715.

A total of 801 people have died at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, 740 at the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust and 721 at the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.

At the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust a total of 1,376 have died.

And 2,610 people have died at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.

A total of 44,951,908 vaccinations have been carried out across England to date – including first and second doses.

In the Midlands, 5,677,598 first doses of the coronavirus vaccine has been administered, while 2,874,034 second doses have been carried out.

The data includes vaccinations carried out between December 8 and May 10.
