Staffordshire County Council is encouraging people to get tested twice a week, even if they have no symptoms or have had their coronavirus vaccine.

The community testing centre will be open on Sunday, between 10am and 4pm, and will be offering rapid tests for walk-ins, with anyone attending then able to take home testing kits to use twice a week.

The council is now moving many of its indoor pop-up testing sites to outdoor venues – especially where there is existing footfall to make it even easier for people to get tested.

Director for health and care at the county council, Dr Richard Harling, said: “Getting tested twice a week is the best way to contain the spread of Covid-19 along with following the rules of Hand, Face, Space and Fresh Air.

"With the relaxation of certain rules that came into place on Monday more businesses have reopened, and people are meeting outdoors again which increases the chances of people unknowingly spreading the virus

“To prevent this from happening which could cause a spike in cases and potentially derail the roadmap out of lockdown we have to make regular testing a priority.

“Getting a rapid test is quick and easy, and there are increased options available either at a testing site or at home to get tested twice a week and make it a part of a regular routine.

“Setting up in popular spots like Cannock Chase makes it even more convenient for local people to get a supervised test as they enjoy the fresh air and beautiful surroundings.”
