Two new coronavirus deaths confirmed at region's hospitals

Two further coronavirus deaths have been confirmed at hospital trusts in the Black Country and Birmingham.

It means that a total of 7,556 have died with Covid-19 in hospitals across the region.

On top of this, a total of 1,387 people have died in the region’s care homes after contracting coronavirus.

NHS England confirmed a further 28 deaths on Thursday, meaning 86,686 have now died in the country's hospitals after testing positive for Covid-19.

One death was announced at the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Russells Hall Hospital, where the total is now 733.

And one death was confirmed at the University Hospitals of Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, where the death toll is now at 2,600. The trust runs the Queen Elizabeth, Heartlands, Solihull and Good Hope hospitals.

No new deaths were announced at either the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, or the Walsall Healthcare Trust, where the totals are 800 and 720 respectively.

There were also no new deaths reported at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust where the total is now 1,374, or at the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust where the death toll stands at 1,167.

Meanwhile, 34,306,139 vaccinations have been carried out across England to date – including first and second doses.

In the Midlands, 5,296,700 first doses of the coronavirus vaccine has been administered, while 1,246,326 second doses have been carried out.

The data includes vaccinations carried out between December 8 and April 14.
