Further three coronavirus deaths confirmed at region's hospitals

A further three coronavirus deaths have been confirmed in the Black Country and Staffordshire.

The deaths announced on Sunday mean 7,480 patients have now died with the virus in the region's hospitals.

Alongside this, a further 1,383 people have died in the region's care homes after contracting coronavirus.

NHS England confirmed a further 35 hospital deaths on Sunday, meaning 85,765 have now died in the country's hospitals after testing positive for Covid-19.

One death was announced at the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, which runs Sandwell General and City hospitals, taking the total to 1,153.

A further death was confirmed at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, which runs New Cross Hospital, where the total increased to 721.

And one death was recorded at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, which runs the Royal Stoke Hospital and County Hospital in Stafford, where the total is now 1,365.

No new deaths were reported at the Dudley Group NHS Trust or the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, where the totals are now 723 and 713 respectively.

There were also no new deaths at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Queen Elizabeth Hospital as well as Heartlands, Solihull and Good Hope hospitals, where the death toll remains 2,574.

A spokesman for NHS England said: "A further 35 people, who tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 85,765.

"Patients were aged between 37 and 98 years old. All except two – aged 37 and 88 – had known underlying health conditions.

"Date of death ranges from May 18, 2020, to March 20, with the majority being on or after March 18.

"Their families have been informed."

Meanwhile, 25,150,632 vaccinations have been carried out across England to date – including first and second doses.

In the Midlands, 4,593,106 first doses of the coronavirus vaccine has been administered, while 266,422 second doses have been carried out.

The data includes vaccinations carried out between December 8 and March 20.
