Wolverhampton hospital workers walking 100 laps in memory of Captain Sir Tom Moore
Members of staff at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust are walking 100 laps around their local park in an aim to raise £400 in memory of Captain Sir Tom Moore.
Working as a healthcare assistant at New Cross Hospital for more than 20 years, Vikki Morris, 44, from Bushbury, wanted to set herself a personal challenge to help raise funds for the Emergency Department (ED) where she is based. She set up a JustGiving page to collect donations.
Despite being recently unwell with Covid-19 and still suffering with fatigue, Vikki felt it was important to set herself this challenge to help her local NHS trust.
Joining Vikki for her laps around Northwood Park in Bushbury is her friend Sally Williamson, 56, also from Bushbury. Sally, who was a senior sister in ED and is now a bank staff nurse, interviewed Vikki for her job 18 years ago and they became firm friends. She was inspired to join Vikki’s challenge.
The ladies are aiming to complete 10 laps per day, having so far completed 60 laps. Each lap is around one mile. They have raised £190 so far, on their JustGiving page called ‘Vikki and Sally’s walk in the park’.
Vikki said: “I wanted to raise some money for the NHS and by doing 100 laps around the park I feel I am doing my bit.
“This is also in memory of Captain Tom. He has inspired me, I thought if he can do it then I can too.”
Rachel Robinson, community and events fundraiser, said: “We would like to wish Vikki and Sally good luck in completing their 100 laps.
“We are very grateful for their support.”
Vikki and Sally are continuing to fund raise to reach their target.
