Further 25 coronavirus deaths at region's hospitals

A further 25 coronavirus patients have died in hospitals in the Black Country, Birmingham and Staffordshire.

It means the total number of Covid-19 patients who have died in the region's hospitals now stands at 6,898.

A further 1,267 have died in the region's care homes.

A total of eight deaths were recorded at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust, which runs hospitals in the city including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where the toll now stands at 2,379.

Seven new deaths were announced at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, which runs New Cross Hospital, where the total is 736.

Six deaths were confirmed at the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, which runs Sandwell General and City hospitals, where the death toll now stands at 1,028.

And four deaths were reported at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, which runs the main hospitals in Stafford and Stoke, taking the toll to 1,291.

No new deaths were recorded at the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, which runs Walsall Manor Hospital, where the toll stands at 653.

No new deaths were confirmed at the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Russells Hall Hospital, where the death toll stands at 659.

A spokesman for NHS England said: "A further 301 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 78,889.

"Patients were aged between 32 and 102 years old. All except eight (aged 40 to 82 years old) had known underlying health conditions."
