Students at Smestow School in Castlecroft were justifiably proud of the artwork which Stuart has now donated to help raise money for the Wolves initiative Feed Our Pack.

Nuno has also offered to sign the painting before it is entered into a raffle when all proceeds will go to the charity, which aims to help reduce the effects of food poverty and support residents of Wolverhampton who have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Stuart, aged 45, said that he had painted the portrait of Wolves legend with "the intention of not only inspiring his students and honouring [his] hero, but also to help the local community through the charity".

He said: "During lockdown, Premiership football and art have been two interests that have given my students and myself a lot of joy.

"As a lifelong Wolves supporter, I wanted to give back, not only to my team but also the local community.

"We are running a portrait competition within school to encourage young artists to paint other inspirational people.

"I hope that my painting inspires them and others to embrace their creativity and help the community.

"It took me eight hours to complete in acrylics in my home studio and my hope is that it might eventually go on public display.

"Nuno has offered to sign the painting which measures about three feet, six inches square."

William Smith, a Year 11 student and Wolves fan, said: "I think the painting is brilliant.

"I hope Nuno likes it as much as the students at Smestow do."

Executive head teacher Clive Jones said: "I am delighted to see students and staff working together to help the local community during these challenging times.

"The portrait has been very popular with out students.

"Stuart is a fantastic artist and I look forward to working with the Wolves Foundation further on other projects."
