Patients left lying in filth claims report on Stafford and Cannock hospitals

A new report on Stafford and Cannock hospitals has revealed claims five patients were left in their own urine and faeces, while staff were too busy filling out paperwork to provide basic care.

The shocking claims were made by patients in a survey carried out by Healthwatch Staffordshire, on behalf of consumer champion Engaging Communities Staffordshire.

Some of the incidents are from as recently as earlier this year.

Jan Sensier, chief executive of ECS, said there were some 'extremely serious complaints' raised in the survey. And she warned that managers and clinicians at the hospitals 'must not take their eyes off the ball.' Results showed five patients reported they had been left in their own urine and faeces.

One in four of those who responded said their experience of care had been negative.

There were 17 complaints of staff being rude, including a report of a nurse refusing to take a patient to the toilet because she had too much paperwork.
