Burglar broke elderly woman's arm as he raided her Stafford home

An elderly woman has suffered a broken arm after she was knocked to the ground in Stafford as men tried to burgle her home.

Three men posing as roofing contractors called at her house in Creswell Grove as one man engaged in conversation with the woman.

Two other two men tried to use a ladder to get onto to the roof.

The incident happened just before 3pm on Monday.

A man has been arrested following the attempted burglary.

The 17-year-old man from Market Harborough in Leicestershire is currently in custody for questioning.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "Three offenders posing as roofing contractors called at the house on Creswell Grove.

"One offender engaged the householders in conversation while the other two attempted to use a long ladder to get on the roof.

"The female resident of the house sustained a broken arm as she was knocked to the ground."
