The red Ford C-Max got stuck in the Doxey Road car park next to Sainsbury's in Stafford.

Staffordshire Police came to the rescue to rescue the female driver who managed to get to safety.

It was spotted by passer-by Dave Clifton who uploaded the photograph (above) to Twitter.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "We were called at 7:05pm on Tuesday night at 7.05pm.

"It was a Ford C-Max car and we managed to get the Female driver to safety.

"The area taped off so no-one else could make the same mistake and the car will be recovered when water subsides."

The Doxey Road car park has been prone to flooding in the past.

In 2014, the car park was closed due to large parts of the Stafford Borough Council owned facility being submerged under water.

There are just under 800 spaces on the long-stay car park, which is used by shoppers at Sainsbury's.
