Firefighters used ladders and rope lines to bring the boy out after receiving a 999 call last night.

As darkness started to fall, a five-strong crew from Walsall Fire Station arrived to help the child.

He had become stuck in the water of the Rushall Canal, near Bell Bridge, shortly before 7pm.

Crews got to the scene behind a pub and tweeted the image of the rescue (above).

And then later today, the youngster's mother got in touch to thank firefighters for their help.
