Firefighters believe the Skoda Fabia car and a lorry collided, forcing the car into railings and over onto its roof.

The accident happened on the Mucklow Hill island, at the junction with Dudley Road, at around 12.20pm yesterday.

A passer-by helped the male driver from the car in the aftermath of the crash.

Crews from Haden Cross fire station arrived to help give the man oxygen before paramedics attended.

He was taken to Russells Hall Hospital for further assessment and treatment.

The road junction was partially blocked for around two hours following the smash.

Haden Cross firefighters tweeted a picture of the crash after they worked to ensure the scene was safe.
