Tipton crash: Two injured as car hits lamppost

Two people suffered serious injuries after their car crashed into a lamppost in Tipton.

The pair were trapped in the car after the crash just after 11.35pm last night on the A461 near the junction with Tividale Street.

Emergency services worked to cut the pair, a man and woman, from the car which also hit a post box in the smash.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the incident and sent two ambulances and a community paramedic in a rapid response vehicle to the scene.

Ambulance service spokesman Jamie Arrowsmith said: "Two patients were left trapped in the car, having to be cut free by the fire service.

"The driver, a woman teenager, was treated for a suspected fractured jaw at the scene before being transported to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.

"The passenger, a man believed to be in his 20s, was treated for a serious head injury and back pain before being taken to the same hospital."
