The fire broke out in the loft of a property in Julie Croft at around 3.25am this morning.

The occupants of the home had got out before fire crews arrived and appeared to have escaped injury, although they were checked over by ambulance crews as a precaution.

Five Black Country fire crews attended in total and used a hydraulic platform appliance to extinguish the flames from above.

The fire was successfully tackled within two hours and was confined to the loft, but the blaze had left a gaping hole in the roof of the semi-detached house.

A fire control spokesman said: "We were alerted to a fire in a roof space having received a call from a member of the public at 3.25am.

"We had crews from Dudley, Tipton, Bilston, Walsall and the hydraulic platform from Oldbury attend.

"It appears the occupants self-evacuated prior to our arrival.

"A few received precautionary checks by the ambulance.

"We came away at 6am."

The fire service has yet to state what may have caused the blaze.
