The bins belonging to market traders were described as 'well alight' when crews from Walsall Fire Station arrived at the scene in Lower Hall Lane at around 10pm.
The blaze broke out in a locked area between charity shop, Scope, and a derelict shop.
Crews commander Chris Hands said: "The bins were well alight when we got there and there were several bins involved.
"The fire occurred in a locked area so it was most likely to have been caused accidentally by someone putting something hot in the bin."
Firefighters battled the blaze for 45 minutes.
