Birmingham fire: Firefighters return to scene of huge Saltley scrap blaze
Fifty firefighters remained at the scene of a huge blaze at a scrap yard in Birmingham this afternoon.

The huge blaze at Clarel Avenue in Birmingham saw 800 tonnes of metal and mixed plastic and rubber alight.
Today smoke and steam could still be seen rising from the site, as machinery was used to crush waste to make room for firefighters to tackle the blaze.
West Midlands Fire Service released these new images of the aftermath of the blaze on Wednesday afternoon:

There is limited through access to Clarel Avenue, but access is allowed from either side for local businesses.
Landor Street was shut between Lawley Middleway and Adderley Road.

West Midlands Fire Service said yesterday evening that they had requested an electricity pylon be switched off at around 7.45pm as a safety measure. Western Power Distribution later said that this affected 536 properties, and that power should be restored at around midnight.
Two aerial platforms, a high volume water pumping unit and a drone were all being used by West Midlands Fire Service, who were called just before 2.10pm.
In total the service received more than 100 emergency 999 calls.
Smoke could be seen for miles around Birmingham and people living in the area were advised to keep their windows and doors shut.
