The smash happened close to Junction 15 for Stoke, closing the carriageway from Junction 14 for Stafford North.

The crash happened in the outside lane, resulting in the closure while patients were treated at the scene and the clear up was completed.

A female driver in her 40s was taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital after suffering whiplash and shoulder pain.

A young boy from another car, who had sustained a facial injury, received treatment at the scene by ambulance staff. He was in a stable condition and, rather than going by ambulance, his mother was happy to take him to hospital nearer to their home.

The road was closed for around half an hour following the smash at 12.20pm.

All lanes have since reopened.
