Pensioner seriously injured in brutal Burntwood attack

Two Stafford men were seriously assaulted in an unprovoked attack during the early hours of this morning.

A 66-year-old remains in a serious condition in hospital as a result of the attack which took place on Queen Street, Chasetown.

The victim was assaulted by two men while walking home with a 42-year-old just after 1.20am on New Year's Day.

He suffered severe facial and head injuries and remains in Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham in a serious but stable condition. His 42-year-old companion did not require hospital treatment.

The offenders, both described as white males, fled the scene, running away towards Edward Street.

Staffordshire Police have launched an investigation into the attack and are appealing for witnesses.
