Woman, 84, seriously injured after being hit by reversing van

An elderly women has been left seriously injured after being hit by a reversing van.

Ellen Davies is thought to have been on her way to a local shop when she was hit by a white Citroen dispatch van as it reversed on Johnson Street, Wolverhampton, at around 4pm on Tuesday afternoon.

The 84-year-old was taken to hospital where she continues to receive treatment.

While the van driver stopped at the scene of the crash police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed what happened.

PC Karl Davies from the Regional Collision Investigation Unit, said: "The van driver did stop at the scene and is assisting us with our on-going investigation.

"We still need witnesses to come forward and I would encourage anyone who was in the area on Tuesday afternoon and saw what happened to get in touch.

He added: "Ellen remains in hospital at the moment, with her family at her bedside."
