Petrol bomb arson forces woman to flee house blaze

A woman was led to safety from a burning house targeted by arsonists who threw a petrol bomb into a car.

The bomb was thrown into a car parked in the driveway of the property in Hopwood Close, Halesowen which lurched forward causing the fire to spread to the semi-detached home.

Residents living in the cul-de-sac were on the scene within minutes and firefighters led the woman to safety, though there were no reports of any serious injuries.

The incident happened at 9.50pm on Sunday and had been dealt with by 12.30am the following morning.

Joanne Hunt, a spokesman for West Midlands police, said: "The fire began after a car outside the property was set alight which in turn, set light to the property causing considerable damage.

"Officers are investigating the possibility it was a targeted attack by someone known to the householder.

Anyone with information in relation to the incident or who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area is asked to call police on 101.
