Man critical after Saturday night attack in Birmingham

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after being knocked unconscious in an unprovoked attack.

The 31-year-old was set upon in Hall Street in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter at around 11.30pm on Saturday.

He suffered a serious head injury after hitting the floor and was said to be in a critical but sable condition on Sunday afternoon.

Nobody has been arrested and police officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a man was seriously injured in Birmingham on Saturday night.

"The 31-year-old was knocked unconscious in an unprovoked attack on Hall Street around 11.30pm.

"He suffered a serious head injury after hitting the floor and remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.

"We are exploring CCTV in the area and have spoken to witnesses, but we believe there were more people who saw what happened and haven’t spoken to us."
