Clayton Hyde, from Dudley, was one of two men who stole gold, jewellery and £10,000 in cash from Harvey & Thompson Pawnbrokers in Dudley town centre in 2019.

CCTV footage from the shop in Wolverhampton Street showed Hyde bursting with a lump hammer and a meat cleaver alongside his armed accomplice.

Staff sheltered behind the counter as one of the robbers smashed the screens in front of them and trashed the till area before bursting through the damaged windows.

The second robber has not been caught but 44-year-old Clyde cut himself on the smashed glass as he grabbed the valuables – leaving blood which allowed officers to track him down.

The DNA sample was traced by the forensics team back to Hyde, from Smith Street, who went on to admit robbery and possession of an offensive weapon.
