Brierley Hill Police arrested the teen after they found the knife on Wednesday, May 5.

Police tweeted a picture of the blade which they found before arresting the boy, just around 12pm at the shopping centre.

A spokesman for Brierley Hill Police said: "Officers have arrested a male today at the Merry Hill centre, having found this knife on him 'for his own protection'.

"This is unacceptable and it is well established that if you carry a knife, you are more likely to suffer a knife-related injury."

West Midlands Police have been contacted for a comment.
