Gavin Parry was killed at an industrial estate on Western Road, Birmingham, at around 5.30pm on April 13.

Another man, aged 22, was also injured and treated in hospital, but has since been released. He has also been arrested and released on bail.

West Midlands Police say they now believe a "social gathering" took place at the unit before Mr Parry was shot and that at least one gun was fired.

Initial findings suggest the weapon used was an automatic one, which would have discharged a number of shots in a short space of time.

Ten people have been arrested in connection with the murder – and they have all since been released on bail. Officers say more arrests will be necessary as their investigation develops.

A team of officers from the force are responding to numerous leads as they try to recover the firearms – and determine exactly what happened and who was responsible for Mr Parry's death.

Forensic searches of the scene have been carried out, as well as a detailed trawl of CCTV in a bid to identify those present.

Detective Inspector Jim Mahon, from our homicide team, said: “We continue to urge anyone with information about what happened to contact us.

“A man has lost his life in a shooting which took place in broad daylight in our city. This is not acceptable and we recognise and empathise with the impact this has had on Mr Parry’s loved ones and our communities.

“We are doing all we can to fully understand what took place, why it happened and who was responsible.

“We are determined to find the weapons involved. Anyone storing weapons linked to this crime will be pursued with the full weight of the law.

“Automatic firearms are extremely dangerous and have tragic consequences as we’ve seen in this case. But they can also pose real danger when they are being stored. We need to get illegal weapons like this off our streets before they cause more harm.

“Misguided loyalty from anyone assisting by hiding weapons could lead to a lengthy prison sentence, so I would encourage people to do the right thing and contact us.

“We understand you may be frightened to come forward and provide information directly to us, so you can contact Crimestoppers instead if you prefer. You just tell them what you know, not who you are.”

Anyone with information can call West Midlands Police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
