David Poppett, 62 and from Cannock, was found guilty of 15 counts of indecent assault and three counts of indecency with a child.

The offences took place in Cannock and Hednesford between the late 1980s and late 1990s.

Poppett, of Moss Road, in Chadsmoor, was sentenced to 16 years behind bars at Stafford Crown Court on Friday and given a two-year supervision order to follow the jail term.

Poppett’s two victims were both aged under 15 at the time of the attacks.

Detective Constable Jo Morrison, of Staffordshire Police said: “I want to commend both of these women for coming forward and having the courage to share what had happened, allowing us to bring Poppett before the courts.

“It doesn’t matter that time has passed, we will always do whatever it takes to bring offenders to justice, while ensuring victims and their families are offered the support they need.”
