Domestic abuse 'up by 39 per cent' in Wolverhampton

Domestic abuse has risen by 39 per cent in Wolverhampton over the past 12 months, a council meeting heard.

Councillor Paula Brookfield, who is the city council's cabinet member for governance, told a cabinet meeting on Wednesday : "It is important for us to realise how much domestic violence has risen, year on year.

"Wolverhampton in the past 12 months has seen a 39 per cent increase in reports to the police."

That figure was revealed during a discussion on how the council can support staff who suffer domestic abuse.
