Yacine Mebchiche has been jailed

Yacine Mebchiche sexually assaulted the child a number of times between 2017 and 2018.

On March 16, he was jailed for 13 years, with four years extended licence, at Birmingham Crown Court, after the girl bravely spoke out and provided police with a video interview – helping to bring Mebchiche to justice.

She spoke to specialist officers from West Midlands Police's Child Abuse Investigation Unit, who offered support and launched an investigation.

Mebchiche, aged 48, of Vicarage Road, in Stourbridge, was convicted by a jury of seven counts of sexual assault on a girl under 13 and two counts of causing a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity.

He will be placed on the sex offenders register for life and is subject to a sexual harm prevention order for life.

DC Hannah Osborne from West Midlands Police's Child Abuse Investigation Unit, said: “The abuse this young girl has suffered is traumatic and I hope this sentence helps to put her on the road to recovery.

"It took a great deal of courage for her to speak out and I commend her bravery.

“We work with specialist agencies who can offer support from the moment a crime is reported, through the investigation and trial process, and beyond."
